Why BioDiesel
BioDiesel is environmentally friendly and ideal for heavily polluted cities. It is as biodegradable as salt and produces 80% less carbon dioxide and 100% less sulfur dioxide emissions. This results in a 90% reduction in cancer risks. BioDiesel can be used alone or mixed in any ratio with mineral oil diesel fuel, with the preferred ratio ranging between 5 and 20% (B5-B20). Additionally, BioDiesel extends the life of diesel engines and is cheaper than mineral oil diesel, while also conserving natural resources.
The majority of transport fuel requirements are currently met by petroleum-based fuels, with only 20% of the total demand being fulfilled by domestic production of crude oil and the remainder through imports. However, crude oil is a limited and non-renewable resource, contributing to increased pollution levels.
To address the challenges of rising pollution, dependence on costly crude imports, and the quest for an unlimited energy source, the Government of India is actively promoting the use of biodiesel, either as a standalone fuel or blended with conventional diesel.
